Andy: I’m Andy Ray and this is another Tool Time Update brought to you by your friends at PKF Texas and the Entrepreneur’s Playbook. I want to talk today about how you go fast when you want to improve a process or performance in your business. One of the mistakes that we make, and it’s a classic mistake in most of our businesses, is that we want to jump right to improvement; we see a problem, we see afire we want to put out, we see something really challenging us and we want to get right to the fix. That’s a classis error that you can correct by backing up two steps. The first thing you need to do if you want to improve anything in your business is make sure that you’ve got visibility on it; this is a key performance indicator, this is some kind of financial metric, it’s a measurement. I business if you can’t put a number on it you can’t control it and if you can’t control it you can’t improve it. So improvement starts with visibility, than once I have visibility I control whatever process is feeding my performance challenge.
I get that within the parameters that I need and then I can drive the improvement. Visibility, control, improve always in that order, it’s a natural law in business. This has been a Tool Time Update brought to by PKF Texas and the Entrepreneur’s Playbook.
