Gina Luna – JP Morgan Chase

Women Mean Business | Episode: 605 | Guests: Gina Luna | 0
When in doubt, it’s all about the clients. Leisa Holland-Nelson chats with Gina Luna, CEO of commercial banking for JP Morgan Chase.

Leisa: Hello. I’m Leisa Holland-Nelson, and welcome to another edition of Women Mean Business, where we’re going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things. My guest today is Gina Luna, CEO of Commercial Banking, and chairman of the market for JP Morgan Chase, here in Houston. Gina, on your rapid rise to these extraordinary positions, you spent some time as chief marketing officer. How did that affect you?

Gina: Well, it was a great learning experience, first of all, ’cause I don’t have a marketing background, and so I was – I have a history in my career of doing things I know nothing about. And it was in the middle of the financial crisis. So if you think about what we were doing in the commercial bank during that time, it was really all about communicating with our clients and helping them understand what was going on in the markets and what the implications were for their business, and then what do they need to do about it. So it was a terrific learning experience just in really having to understand what was happening, what was the cause, and what should people do. And it was great to see how our company responded to that. From Jamie Dimon on down, it was really all about the client and how do we help our clients through this very difficult and uncertain period, and just being close to that and being a part of working through that just taught me a lot about the company and how we deal with difficult problems, and it made me very loyal, and, frankly, very proud to be here.

Leisa: Thank you. There you have it, another extraordinary woman doing extraordinary things. I’m Lisa Holland-Nelson, president, cofounder, and chief marketing officer of Content Active, Houston’s leading Web and mobile technology company. You can find me at contentactive.com, or follow me on Twitter at LHNelson. We’ll be back again next week with another edition of Women Mean business.
