Women Mean Business – Carolyn Rodz

Women Mean Business | Episode: 562 | Guests: Carolyn Rodz | 0
Extraordinary advice from an extraordinary woman. Leisa Holland-Nelson visits with serial entrepreneur Carolyn Rodz, founder of Circular Board, a collaborative accelerator that supports women in business.

Leisa: Hello, I’m Leisa Holland Nelson and welcome to another edition of Woman Mean Business where we’re going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things. My guest today is Carolyn Rodz, the Founder of a collaborative accelerator for women entrepreneurs known as Circular board. Carolyn, you’ve been so successful, what advice do you have for someone who’d like to achieve the success that you’ve managed to get?

Carolyn: Sure, well I can tell you things that I’ve learned along the way, then also things that we see over and over again, specifically with women entrepreneurs. The first is really just thinking bigger; understanding that just because you don’t have all of the pieces in place today doesn’t mean that there aren’t really simple ways to get there. For example, if you feel like you don’t have the right partners in place to execute your vision or that you don’t have the capital that you need to grow, understanding that going out and raising equity or bringing in team members in exchange for a piece of the business can really help you get to that vision so much faster instead of sacrificing that vision in order to bootstrap it. Sometimes that can be your biggest hurdle in trying to get where you need to be.

Leisa: And? You said there was something else.

Carolyn: So the second piece would be consistently executing on that vision; it’s a slow and steady process to get there and really making sure that you have a clear endpoint, whether that is an exit strategy or a certain hurdle in where you’re trying to get to in your business, but really understanding what that is. And every day moving towards that so that you know as you’re receiving outside input from others knowing what to weed out and what doesn’t contribute to that vision and then also what to receive and what will help further that move.

Leisa: So think big and be consistent.

Carolyn: Exactly.

Leisa: Thank you very much.

Carolyn: Thanks for having me.

Leisa: There you have it, extraordinary advice from an extraordinary woman. I’m Leisa Holland Nelson, President and Co-founder of ContentActive, Houston’s leading website and mobile app company.
