Women Mean Business – Dr. Latha Ramchand

Women Mean Business | Episode: 534 | Guests: Latha Ramchand | 0
Today’s extraordinary woman leads the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston. She’s also their best cheerleader! Leisa visits with Dr. Latha Ramchand, professor of finance and dean of the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston.

Leisa: Hello, I’m Leisa Holland-Nelson and welcome to another edition of Women Mean Business, where we’re going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things. My guest today is Dean Latha Ramchand, the Dean of the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston and Professor of Finance. Welcome.

Dr. Ramchand: Yes, thank you, thank you.

Leisa: Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here. Tell us about all the exciting things that are going on at Bauer College of Business here at the University of Houston.

Dr. Ramchand: So Bauer College, as you well know, is on the move. We have about 6,000 students at the college, which is a large college, and what we’re trying to do now and what we are becoming anymore is really the destination of first choice. If you are a student looking to get a business degree, if you’re a recruiter looking to hire the best talent – whether it’s an employee or a manager or a leader – we need to be the place where you come to look for that talent. And guess what, we are providing that talent; our students are being placed well. We’re getting a better pipeline every year. And we are also becoming a destination of choice for faculty who want to do some very interesting business-related research. So all in all I think about Bauer College as a temple of learning.

That’s the learning that happens at Bauer, it’s all about best practice in business and the unique thing that’s really different about Bauer is it’s not just material taught out of a textbook; it’s actually learning, being and doing because thanks to the city of Houston we get people in the class that have been out there, that have done that, and that’s what’s unique about us.

Leisa: And you get to lead it as the Dean.

Dr. Ramchand: I am just so fortunate, so blessed, really so humbled to serve as Dean of just an amazing group of students, of faculty, of staff; I just feel so fortunate to be here.

Leisa: Well thank you for being with us today.

Dr. Ramchand: Thank you.

Leisa: There you have it, an extraordinary woman doing extraordinary things. I’m Leisa Holland-Nelson, President and Co-founder of Content Active, Houston’s leading web and mobile design and development company.
