Women Mean Business – Elizabeth Killinger

Women Mean Business | Episode: 502 | Guests: Elizabeth Killinger | 0
Extraordinary career advice from another extraordinary woman. Leisa Holland-Nelson chats with Elizabeth Killinger, president, NRG Texas Retail and Reliant.

Leisa: Hello, and welcome to another edition of Women Mean Business, where we’re going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things. My guest today is Elizabeth Killinger, president of NRG Texas Retail and Reliant. Elizabeth, welcome to Women Mean Business.

Elizabeth: Thank you, Leisa, for having me.

Leisa: Elizabeth, you are very successful at what I think is a very young age, but I know we have a lot of young professionals who listen to our show, and I’d love to know what advice you would give them to achieve the success you’ve achieved?

Elizabeth: The first I would give is to be the CEO of the job you have. Said another way, do the very best you can do at your current job, and don’t set your sites too high on the next job until you have demonstrated a great job at your job. The other thing I would say is to always think about your boss’s perspective. Sometimes in organizations, you have one sliver of an organization as your responsibility, or one task that’s your responsibility, but your boss needs to make sure all of those tasks fit together. So, if you think about his or her perspective as you’re doing your job, you’re more likely to do a better job and you’re more likely to make him or her more successful, which in the end, gives you the opportunity to take on more and more responsibilities.

Leisa: Thank you very much. There you have it. Extraordinary advice from an extraordinary woman. I’m Leisa Holland-Nelson, president and chief marketing officer of Content Active, Houston’s leading web and mobile technology company. You can find me at Content Active.com or follow me on Twitter @LHNelson. We’ll be back again next week with another edition of Women Mean Business.
