Leisa: Hello. I’m Leisa Holland-Nelson, and welcome to another edition of Women Mean Business, where we’re going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things.

My guest today is Gina Luna, CEO of Commercial Banking and Chairman of the Market for JP Morgan Chase. Gina, that’s a mouthful, and I know you’ve had a rapid rise, imagine we have an aspiring young woman with us here today, what advice would you give her in her career?

Gina: You know, my advice would be the same whether it was a woman or a man. And I think there are a couple of things I would advise. And the first is very simple, just always do your best work and never settle for less than that. And while you’re doing that, make sure you understand the context of your piece of the work in the broader mission of your organization. I think not only is that important to your development, but in terms of career satisfaction, to really understand how your role fits in I think is really key.

I also think it’s really important to think big and not limit yourself in your thinking of what’s possible. And lastly, I think you’ve always got to do the right thing, which may not be the popular thing in many cases. Someone once told me that no matter what you do someone will criticize you, so you might as well do what’s right. And I’ve always found that to be great advice.
