Women Mean Business – Gita Kulkarni

Women Mean Business | Episode: 513 | Guests: Gita Kulkarni | 0
How did she get here? Well, it started on a dare! Leisa Holland-Nelson hosts Gita Kulkarni, founder and president of Avinta Services Corp.

Leisa: Hello, I’m Leisa Holland Nelson and welcome to another edition of Women Mean Business where we’re going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things. My guest today is Gita Kulkarni, the President and Executive Producer of Avinta Services, a very special company with a great tagline; welcome Gita.

Gita: Thank you Leisa.

Leisa: Tell us the tagline.

Gita: It is to excite and delight our customers.

Leisa: And you have a great story of how you got here and so I really want you to share that because I know that as a little kid in the backyard on the swing set you weren’t dreaming of being a Salesforcce.com partner.

Gita: Absolutely.

Leisa: So tell us a little bit about your history and how you started the company and what the company is today, all in 90 seconds.

Gita: Well, I can – I will try my best. So a lot of what I did started on a dare. I went to school, I actually graduated with my MBA from Rice and it was done on a dare and then from there I think a lot of that kind of precipitated a lot of the dares that I do make. When I started the business I told myself I had a very clear entry and a very clear exit strategy for what I was going to do and it was a dare. I dared myself to do it.

Leisa: Oh, you dared yourself; so you challenged yourself consistently.

Gita: Absolutely.

Leisa: Did you do that as a child? Do you remember?

Gita: You know, I think I did. I think life is very much a game and I think my biggest competitor is myself and I think anybody in this world who is somewhat successful at what they do tends to look at themselves as their own competitors.

Leisa: okay, okay I love that; so more to come. Tell me a little bit more about how you got all the way – so you dared yourself to start this business, how long ago was that?

Gita: Right, 8 years ago. We’ve been in business since 2008 and it’s been a crazy and wild journey, it’s a lot of faith sometimes and trying to understand, you know, what types of people and what types of client’s we need to affect and bring into the organization and also bring into our client base to really put the best brand forth to the street and the best product to the street as well.

Leisa: Well years is a long time, congratulations.

Gita: Thank you.

Leisa: There you have it, another extraordinary woman doing extraordinary things. I’m Leisa Holland Nelson, President and Co-founder of ContentActive, Houston’s leading web and mobile design and development company. You can find me at ContentActive.com or follow me on Twitter @LHNelson. We’ll be back again next week with another edition of Women Mean Business.
