Women Mean Business – Jennifer “JJ” Davis

Women Mean Business | Episode: 578 | Guests: Jennifer Davis | 0
Leisa Holland-Nelson is attending the Circular Summit at Hotel Zaza where she meets with Jennifer “JJ” Davis, head of the Women’s Entrepreneur Network at Dell. JJ explains how her employer values risk-taking and big ideas and wants to encourage entrepreneurship.

Leisa: Hello, I’m Leisa Holland Nelson and welcome to special edition of Women Mean Business. We’re coming to you live today from the Circular Summit, brought to you by the Circular Board, and I’m here at Hotel Zsa Zsa with my guest J.J. Davis, the head of the Women’s Entrepreneur Network at Dell.

J.J.: Yes

Leisa: J.J., how did you get to this fabulous opportunity; this fabulous job?

J.J.: Thanks Leisa. Well just like the entrepreneurs we create I happened to have the privilege to work inside a company that values risk-taking and big ideas. And so we went to our Chief Marketing Officer Karen Quintos with a big idea, formed the Dell Women’s Entrepreneur Network, piloted it starting in 2010 and continue to make this investment. So inside of a big company it’s called Intrapreneruship; our company really celebrates big ideas and risk-taking and innovative thinking and so by bringing a big idea forward that is in direct support of our customers, we’re able to continue to invest in these companies and help them scale and grow and earn their trust as their technology partner.

Leisa: So how long have you been at Dell?

J.J.: 15 years.

Leisa: So what were you doing until 2010?

J.J.: So I’ve always been in our Communications Department; I come from a family of small business owners so I have often worked in the area of Small Business or Public Affairs or Government Relations and so I’ve always been able to tie profit and product with purpose. Working for Dell, who is really grounded in how technology helps enable human potential, it really opens up a world of opportunity. So that’s how it all started.

Leisa: Well we’re glad it did, thank you for being here.

J.J.: Thank you, thanks.

Leisa: There you have it, another extraordinary woman doing extraordinary things. I’m Leisa Holland Nelson, President and Co-founder of ContentActive, Houston’s leading web and mobile technology company. You can find me at ContactActive.com or follow me on Twitter @LHNelson. We’ll be back again next week with another edition of Women Mean Business.
