Jennifer Stewart – Southwest Energy

Women Mean Business | Episode: 590 | Guests: Jennifer Stewart | 0
How does a little girl grow up to be a finance executive? Well, it’s quite a story. Leisa Holland-Nelson visits with Jennifer Stewart, SVP finance, Southwestern Energy.

Leisa: Hello, I’m Leisa Holland Nelson and welcome to another edition of Women Mean Business, where we’re going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things. My guest today is Jennifer Stewart, Senior Vice President for Finance at Southwestern Energy. Jennifer, welcome to Women Mean Business.

Jennifer: Thank you Leisa, I’m glad to be here.

Leisa: I’m going to guess that when you were a little girl in the backyard you weren’t dreaming of being a Senior Vice President for Finance of an energy company.

Jennifer: And your guess is correct I did not.

Leisa: So tell us how you got here.

Jennifer: It’s a long circuitous route, definitely not a direct path. I got out of undergrad and my husband and I worked in a very small town so I went to work for the IRS of all things. I was there for about 10 years when I decided it was time to make a change so I went to law school. And the interesting thing about my adventure in law school is that I had two little girls and I was working full time for the IRS at the same time. So combining all those three, I don’t recommend it, but it was successful after I graduated from law school I went to work for a law firm here in Houston and from there I’ve spent time in a tax consulting role and a big four accounting firm, at a large integrated oil and gas company and then here at Southwestern Energy.

Leisa: So tell me about what was your favorite move.

Jennifer: My favorite move – they’ve all been good moves – but my best move I have to say is my move to Southwestern Energy. I’ve never worked for a company where it really follows the values that it proposes; that it’s the right people doing the right things and it’s just the best place, I don’t regret it for a moment.

Leisa: Thanks so much for sharing that story.

Jennifer: You’re welcome.

Leisa: There you have it, another extraordinary woman doing extraordinary things. I’m Leisa Holland Nelson, President and Co-founder of ContentActive, Houston’s leading web and mobile app development company. You can find me at ContactActive.com or follow me on Twitter @LHNelson. We’ll be back again next week with another edition of Women Mean Business.
