Women Mean Business – Kelly Hess

Women Mean Business | Episode: 582 | Guests: Kelly Hess | 0
Today’s extraordinary woman is celebrating 20 years of refurbishing, reuse and responsible recycling. Lisa Holland-Nelson chats with Kelly Hess, president and CEO of CompuCycle, an electronic recycling company.

Leisa: Hello, I’m Leisa Holland Nelson and welcome to another edition of Women Mean Business, where we’re going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things. My guest today is Kelly Hess, the President and CEO of CompuCycle, responsible, safe, secure electronic recycling.

Kelly: You’ve got it.

Leisa: A mouthful; Kelly, welcome to Women Mean Business.

Kelly: Leisa, thank you so much for having me today. I’m so honored and so grateful to have the opportunity to talk to you and tell you a little bit more about CompuCycle.

Leisa: That’s what we’re here for so tell us.

Kelly: Great. Well CompuCycle is – 20 years celebration this year for our being in business and we’re so excited to be able to say that we’re Houston’s first electronic responsible recycler through our two certifications. So what that means is anything that comes through these doors is disposed of responsibly, securely and safely. And truly when you have electronics that need to be disposed, if you’re an individual or a corporation, you can come right here to CompuCycle, drop it off and it’ll be handled; your data will be destroyed and you’re safe to know that everything is taken care of and it’s not land filled.

Leisa: Everything is recycled, there’s no refurbishing?

Kelly: No, so truly our first goal is to refurbish. So our goal is to try to reuse, refurbish as much as we can. And then if we can’t we’ll break it down to use the components if we’re able to reuse the components and if that doesn’t work then we break it down it is very bare and then recycle it responsibly so it’s not land filled.

Leisa: So I have one last question for you, who is your target customer? I know I’m not as an individual.

Kelly: Truly we are a City of Houston drop off site, so we welcome any individuals, but to keep our doors open we work with corporations. So we’re looking for businesses that need to get rid of their equipment and especially if they’re 100 employees of more that on an ongoing basis need to dispose and have a service to be able to call, come pick it up, make it turnkey, make it easy; a so simple solution tailored to their needs. And what we do it they just call us, we go pick it up, we come back, we process it and if the material is 5 years or younger we’re usually able to give value back. So that’s what makes us so special, because we can refurbish and reuse, we’re able to give you value back.

Leisa: Perfect, thank you very much for being here. There you have it, another extraordinary woman doing extraordinary things. I’m Leisa Holland Nelson, President and Co-founder of ContentActive, Houston’s leading web and mobile development company. You can find me at ContactActive.com or follow me on Twitter @LHNelson. We’ll be back again next week with another edition of Women Mean Business.
