Women Mean Business – Nory Angel

Women Mean Business | Episode: 540 | Guests: Nory Angel | 0
Connecting certain job-hunters with the appropriate resources can be a special challenge, requiring specific resources. Leisa Holland-Nelson visits with Nory Angel, executive director and CEO of SER- Jobs for Progress.

Leisa: Hello, I’m Leisa Holland-Nelson and welcome to another edition of Women Mean Business, where we’re going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things. My guest today is Nory Angel, Executive Director and CEO of SER Jobs for Progress; Nory, welcome to Women Mena Business.

Nory: Thank you Leisa.

Leisa: I’m excited to have you here. I want you to tell us about SER.

Nory: SER is a wonderful nonprofit agency that has been serving Houston for the last 50 years. As I’ve mentioned, this year we’re celebrating out 50th anniversary, we’re having a gala on October 16th and we’ll be honoring the Telepsen family.

Leisa: Well that’s exciting. So what does SER do?

Nory: SER specializes in workforce development services, which means we help people figure out their career path. We help them gain the skills they need to get those good jobs. Since they get employed we teach them how to manage their money so that they can save for the future, build their credit and start acquiring assets.

Leisa: What’s the biggest challenge SER is having today?

Nory: Well, as always, finding pathways to careers for people who might have some blemishes in their background such as maybe they went to prison or perhaps they dropped out of school or they never attained the skills they needed to get good jobs; so connecting people to those career paths can be challenging sometimes.

Leisa: Okay, well maybe one of our listeners will have some great advice for you one day.

Nory: I hope so or perhaps they have great employment opportunities for our clients.

Leisa: Yeah, that too. Thank you for being here.

Nory: Thank you.

Leisa: There you have it, another extraordinary woman doing extraordinary things. I’m Leisa Holland-Nelson, President and Co-founder of ContentActive, Houston’s leading web and mobile technology design and development company. You can find me at ContentActive.com or follow me on Twitter @LHNeslon. We’ll be back again next week with another edition of Women Mean Business.
