Women Mean Business – Ruchi Mukherjee

Women Mean Business | Episode: 570 | Guests: Ruchi Mukherjee | 0
She’s having a party and launching a print magazine! Leisa Holland-Nelson visits with Ruchi Mukherjee, founder of Lights Camera Action Houston, an online lifestyle society magazine.

Leisa: Hello, I’m Leisa Holland Nelson and welcome to another edition of Women Mean Business, where we’re going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things. My guest today is Ruchi Mukherjee, the founder of Lights, Camera, Action Houston which encompasses a world of media. Ruchi, welcome to Women Mean Business.

Ruchi: Thank you Leisa, what an honor to speak to you today.

Leisa: Well I want you to tell us all about Lights, Camera, Action.

Ruchi: Well LCA Houston started in 2009 online lifestyle magazine. The concept, to bridge the community’s ethnic and the mainstream; very plain and simple because I was covering the Indian American community, South Asian community and I felt that the world, the Houston society in mainstream needed to know what’s going on and all these amazing men, women, businesses that were around and just events and society parties and charity that was happening for them. So that was the whole idea because I was like there was a gap and we needed to fill that and that’s where I can say LCA Houston has been very instrumental in doing that.

Leisa: It has but I know it’s just more than an online magazine today; tell us about what you’re doing.

Ruchi: Exactly. So like I said, 2009 I started the online lifestyle magazine and it was in 2013 under the LCA Houston banner that we started LCA Houston’s International Mother’s Day Soiree where we honor Houston’s international mothers. Being a mother myself I’m amazed at how mother’s like you – you were our first honoree in 2013 – what you bring to the table. I mean all the things that you do for the community is just amazing and for your family and raising you child. So that was needed to be noticed and that was the whole idea.

Leisa: Thank you. Thank you for that and I know something’s coming up very soon which is very interesting; you’re going to transition from online to print. Tell us about that.

Ruchi: We are still going to be very much online magazine, however I felt that with my personally years taking – I know, it sounds like oh my God it’s been so long I’ve been a journalist that that’s all I can do is be a journalist – I found the need to have it in print where people could touch, feel and see it and that’s the reason this soiree on May 5th, 2016 at Saks 5th Avenue I’m going to be also launching the print version of LCA Houston.

Leisa: Well I’m very excited, congratulations.

Ruchi: Thank you.

Leisa: There you have it, another extraordinary woman doing extraordinary things. I’m Leisa Holland Nelson, President and Co-founder of ContentActive. You can find me at ContentActive.com or follow me on Twitter @LHNelson. We’ll be back again next week with another edition of Women Mean Business.
